Information and Reference Services
Solihull libraries can help you answer the questions you have using a wide range of information resources and reference books, in the library and also available for you to use at home or in the office, through our Virtual Reference Library.
Solihull Central Library provides the most comprehensive information service and specialist staff to help you, but you can access information at any library, or at home via the Virtual Reference Library, Enquire and My Health Library. If the information you need isn't available from your local library, staff can ask the Central Library to obtain it for you.
The Virtual Reference Library
Solihull Libraries subscribe to major online information resources you can access via the Internet, so you don't have to! You can use them free of charge at the library, and in most cases you can also use them at home or work, at any time of day or night. All you need is your library card number.
Check out the Virtual Reference Library.
Enquire is a worldwide online enquiry service where you can chat with trained librarians in the UK, (or after 5pm, the USA) to get an answer to your question. You can also receive replies by email.
Solihull Libraries is one of over 80 UK library services participating in the national People's Network Enquire Service. It works like instant messaging or chat room technology, where you put your question to a real person, just as if you were talking to them face to face or on the telephone.
The service is free, anyone can use it and you can ask your question day and night, every day of the year.
If you have a question relating to Solihull Libraries or its services then please email libraryarts@solihull.gov.uk
All libraries also have a photocopying facility and fax service, and scanning facilities.
All libraries have free internet access computers (first hour free) so you can access information yourself. You can book time on a PC with your library card.

NEW! My Health Library
My health library is a new website which links to information about health practices, hospitals and support groups, as well as other health and social care services. You can use it to find your local doctor, dentist, hospital, pharmacist and many other local health services.
You can also find helpful and reliable information about health and medical conditions and treatments, and do your own online checks on your health and wellbeing. Links are also made to Books on Prescription schemes, which are run by libraries with the support of the NHS.
YouTube clips are available to help you find information on the site.
To visit the website follow the link on this page or go to http://www.myhealthlibrary.co.uk/
This pilot project is being developed between Directgov and other national partners to create tools to help navigate around health information sources on the web. Solihull Libraries and 13 other library authorities in the West Midlands region are working in partnership with NHS West Midlands, NHS Local and the Society of Chief Librarians.
Feedback is important to this project to help develop the service - the website includes a questionnaire and there is a £100 prize draw for those taking part.
