Solihull Community Read
Black History Month 2010
Solihull Community Read is the borough's first community based reading initiative being launched by Solihull Libraries to celebrate Black History Month 2010 in October.
What is the Solihull Community Read?
Solihull Libraries have selected two classic contemporary novels from award-winning authors which explore the immigrant experience.
- Small Island by Andrea Levy
- Brick Lane by Monica Ali
During October we will be encouraging as many people as possible to read either or both titles and tell us what they think. You can check our online catalogue to find out where you can get your hands on a copy.
Solihull Community Read is a great choice for a book group, email us if you would like copies to discuss at your September or October meeting. The Readers' Circle at Kingshurst Library will be discussing Brick Lane on Tuesday 28 September.

About Black History Month
Black History Month (BHM) takes place every October to celebrate Solihull’s diverse community. The month-long event highlights the achievements and history of African, African Caribbean and Asian communities.
BHM (which will celebrate 5 years this October) has established itself as a major celebration reflecting the borough’s rich diversity and cultural heritage.
Once again the Solihull Partnership, Solihull College and a number of other local organisations will be working with Black African and Caribbean communities to deliver an exciting programme of events and activities for people of all ages to help celebrate the occasion throughout October.
