Library Events
Solihull Libraries are a hive of activity throughout the year. There are regular events such as Storytimes and Rhyme Time sessions for younger children as well as poetry and author events for adults.
Check below to find out what is happening at your local library:
You can book places for the activities in libraries two weeks in advance, please contact the individual library. Children under 8 must be
accompanied by an adult.
Balsall Common

Coffee Morning – First Thursday of each month, 10.30 am – 12.00 noon.
Come and join us for coffee and a chat. All welcome. -
Readers Circle – First Friday of each month, 9.45 – 11.15 am.
Everyone welcome. The group will be discussing titles by Daphne du Maurier in June. -
Bounce and Rhyme - Second Thursday of each month, 2.15 pm – 2.45 pm.
A friendly monthly get-together for the under 5’s with songs and rhymes. - Family History Support Group – Usually on the third Thursday of each month, 1.30 – 3.00pm., with exclusive use of library PCs for research from 3.00 - 4.00pm. An informal group of library members meeting to discuss and help each other with their family history research. New members always welcome.
- Teenage Focus Group – Saturday mornings, once a month, 11.00 am – 12.30 pm. Come along to this exciting new group and find out about the Balsall Book Swap. Phone the library for the date of the next meeting.

Storytime – every Monday, 2.15 pm – 2.45 pm.
Stories for the under 5s, all welcome. - Jubilee Week Celebrations - create your crown activity and colouring to celebrate the Jubilee. Drop in sessions for children during the afternoons of 2nd, 7th and 8th June, 2.15-4.15 pm.

Rhymetime - launch of our new activity for 0-2 years. Enjoy rhymes with instrumens on Tuesday 12th June at 2.15 pm and every Tuesday following.

- Chatterbooks Session - Our children's reading group holds its monthly meeting on 24th May 4-5 pm.
- Knowle Readers Circle - Next meeting 18th May 2.15 pm discussing Charles Dickens "A Tale of Two Cities".

- New Rhyme time sessions for babies and toddlers begin on Tuesday 8th May and 22nd May 11-11.20 am. No need to book, just turn up, we would love to see you.
- Kings and Queens craft session - to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee - Saturday 28th May 10 am - 1 pm
- Knowle Society Exhibition "Knowle celebrations over the years" can be viewed in the gallery during Library opening hours.
- Councillors surgeries held the 1st Saturday of the month. Please contact the Library if you wish to book a meeting with one of our local councillors.
- Energy Monitors these can be borrowed free from the library for up to two weeks and show the amount of energy you are using in your home.
- Computer Taster Sessions we are offering a six week course on a one to one basis with a tutor. A charge applies. Please contact staff for further details.

- Computer Taster Course - we also offer a six week computer taster course, where you can learn on a one to one basis with a tutor. These lessons are held on a Monday morning and a small charge applies. Please ask staff for more details.
- Energy Monitors are now available - these can be borrowed free from the library for up to two weeks and show both the amount and cost of the energy you are using in your home. Call in now to borrow your monitor and start saving on your energy bills.

- Baby Rhyme Time -Tuesdays during term time at 10.30am and 2.00pm. On Tuesday 15th May at 2.20 pm, following on from the Rhyme time, there will be a Make and Taste Healthy Eating session.
- Story Time - Storytime for children under 5 years will be held monthly on the first Friday of the month from 2.00pm - 2.45pm
- Poetry Group - meets 1st Thursday of the month from 10.30am - 12 noon
- Readers' Circle - meets on the 2nd Monday of the month from 2.00pm - 3.00pm followed by refreshments, please contact the library for further details
- Shirley Library Local History Group - Meetings take place on the 3rd Saturday of the month 2.00pm - 4.00pm. All welcome
