£20 notes

Many people suffer difficulties with money at some time of their lives. Money problems can be caused by a variety of reasons, such as unemployment, illness, decreased income, relationship breakdown or over commitments.

If you are struggling with debts, there may be times when they feel impossible to manage. If you think you are in trouble, don’t ignore it, take positive action to deal with the problem as soon as you can. There are always ways to get free of debt, no matter how impossible it may feel!

There is lots of free help and advice available to you:

  • If possible, first review your situation, read our Top 10 Tips, check if you are missing out on claiming any benefit entitlement and complete our online budget calculator to see if you can maximise your income or review your expenditure to help you to make manageable repayments for any debts.
  • If you are unable to agree manageable repayments for your debts, are struggling financially or feel your health is suffering due to the situation, view our List of Useful Contacts and seek help from an independent organisation who will not charge for their services

Facing up to your debt problem may be hard but the situation will only escalate if it is ignored. Talk about your problems, tell friends and family, don’t be ashamed or try to keep up pretences. You may find others that are in the same situation or worse of than yourself and will appreciate your honesty.
