Solihull Music Service
TAKES ITS ROCK CONCERT
TO
THE CAVERN, LIVERPOOL
Solihull Music Service along with its partner school, Langley, takes its Rock Concert to the Cavern Liverpool on 1st December. Having filled Birmingham Town Hall earlier this year with a Gala Concert, the school is aiming for the ultimate rock venue.
Along with invited schools Alderbrook, Archbishop Grimshaw, Castle Bromwich Junior, Solihull Music Service and Langley will be the first Music Service and school in the country to take its Rock Concert to the Cavern. Over 100 performers and 200 parents, guests and staff will be making the trip to see two concerts on the stage where the Beatles started.
Terry Clarke, Arts Director at Langley School said “When the students performed at Birmingham Town Hall they raised their level of performance way beyond our expectations. We have found that the venue can be such an inspiration. It instills self belief and self confidence so that our students always strive to be the best they can be. Performing on the most famous stage in the world should be a day to remember for all of the parents, pupils and staff making the trip to the European City of Culture 2008.”
Solihull Music Service, responsible for the annual National Rock & Pop Festival at NEC, supports all of Solihull’s schools with a year long programme of tuition and concerts.
As well as playing in the concerts, several students will be gaining their Arts Award, a nationally accredited scheme for rewarding leadership in the arts.

Solihull Music Service presents Ten Tribes
Birmingham Symphony Hall on Monday 23 June 2008
Music Service has been granted funds from the Arts Council to support a wide ranging arts project in the Borough. The title of the project will be "Ten Tribes" and its focus will be a new choral work with the same title, commissioned from Ian Blick and Tony Brown. The grand concert will also involve performances from some of the borough’s top ensembles.
The aim of the Ten Tribes Project is to use this newly commissioned vocal work as a touchstone for schools to explore aspects of inclusion and exclusion and related issues which will link to the PSD curriculum. The commissioned work will have a strong narrative structure that uses music, song, dance, movement, audio and language (including non-spoken communication and languages other than English). The project will culminate in the performance at Symphony Hall which will bring together a range of performance styles.
See the list of participating schools.
String Explosion 2008
