Residential Courses
The Music Service provides an opportunity for schools and ensembles to participate in residential music courses.
Residential Courses - Curriculum Focus
The Music Service provides an opportunity for schools to participate in residential music courses for primary and secondary pupils which are held at Dunfield house, Kington, Herefordshire. http://www.dunfieldhouse.org.uk/ , email: centremanager@dunfieldhouse.org.uk
- 7 Junior / Special school courses take place over four days. Pupils from different schools work together on a chosen musical production, rehearsing the music, drama and dance, and producing sets and costumes, resulting in a performance to parents on the last day.
- 5 Infant courses usually take place over three days, including one overnight stay. Pupils from different schools work together on a programme of musical development, covering a range of music activities and opportunities.
The aim of the residential courses is to provide an opportunity for a wide range of pupils to work together (over 1200 children in 2001) on a musical focus, enjoying the country setting and leisure facilities which are available. These include walking, treasure hunts, indoor games, swimming and campfire. Teachers will gain valuable experience from working with colleagues, as well as ideas for productions to put on in their own schools.
A promotional VIDEO outlining the nature of the Dunfield House courses is available from the Music Service on request.
Residential Courses - Ensemble Focus
The Music Service provides courses for 3 Borough ensembles, over three to four days, usually including the weekend. The ensemble has the opportunity to work in small groups with specialist staff on the development of appropriate instrumental technique and repertoire.
The Music Service can offer the same facilities with a school or cluster based ensemble of any type or style of music. Length of time is negotiable.
