Council and Police seize imitation firearms
From Press Office on 07 December 2007
The Police and Council in Solihull are working together to tackle any potential violent crime by seizing a substantial number of imitation firearms.
In a joint operation which took place on 5 December, the Council's Trading Standards team and police from the east neighbourhood team seized over 600 imitation firearms from an importer in the area.
The seizure follows on from last week's activities, where over 1000 imitation guns were seized in joint raids on several shops in the area.
The imitation firearms were seized under the Serious Crime Act 2006, which allows police to seize anything that looks like a replica firearm.
Cllr Mrs Diana Holl-Allen, Cabinet member for Quality of Life and Neighbourhoods, from Solihull Council said: "People need to feel safe and we are working hard to clamp down on any firearms, imitation or otherwise. There is absolutely no reason why people need these imitation guns and I am really pleased with the results of this and last week's operation."
Acting Sergeant Matt Crowley, who helped to organise the seizure, said: "This initiative is about fighting crime and making sure our communities feel as safe as possible. I am really pleased that these imitation firearms have been taken off our streets, and I look forward to continue working with our partner agencies to make Solihull as safe as possible."
