The Big Clean

From Press Office on 20 December 2007

Solihull Council and Solihull Community Housing (SCH) are calling on residents to help keep the borough clean by bringing their Christmas rubbish that can’t be recycled to one of their ‘Big Clean’ sites.

On Thursday 10th January from 8am-12noon there will be skips available at 14 sites where people can dispose of things like general household rubbish, plastic packaging, clothes that can’t be recycled or given to charity and old Christmas decorations, free of charge. Estate Caretakers from SCH will be on hand at the sites to help out.

It is hoped that the scheme will help to reduce the amount of rubbish that is illegally fly-tipped across the borough following the Christmas period - especially in the north of the borough.

Skips are available at:

Bickenhill

Cambridge Drive - corner of open space opposite Wells Walk

Castle Bromwich

Parkfield Drive - next to the Recycling Centre in the car park by Spitfire Pub

Chelmsley Wood

Pike Drive - car park opposite school at base of nos 170-202

People are also being reminded that they can recycle a lot of their Christmas waste at their local recycling centre - Bickenhill will be open as normal except Christmas Day, Boxing day and New Years Day. The site will close early at 4.00pm on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

And on 12th and 13th January you can recycle your real Christmas trees at parks across the borough.
