Parks
Did you know, there are over 1,500 acres of formal and informal parks and gardens to enjoy, right on your doorstep in Solihull? There are 21 parks, recreation grounds and local nature reserves that can be found at the heart of the villages and towns that make up the borough. Many of our parks have been awarded ‘green flags’ which means they are ranked with some of the best parks in the country.
But it's not just about scenery, trees and flower beds. Solihull parks offer a wide range of activities for all the family, young and old - from skate boarding to bowls, tennis to play areas. And our programme of walks, workshops, children's fun activities, music and theatre productions is growing every year. Many of the activities are free of charge. And there's no excuse not to go out during the cooler autumn and winter days; our outdoor events programme goes right through until December!
Outdoor spaces are ideal meeting places and we encourage residents and groups to make use of our great locations for their fetes and activities. If you’d like more information about this, contact us on 0121 704 8000.
Walking
One of the best ways to make the most of the outdoors and good weather is to go for a walk; you can do it any time and anywhere, you don’t need any special equipment, it's a great way to look after your health, and best of all: it’s free!
If you need some encouragement, you’re not sure where to go walking or if you would like someone to walk with, we can help! Come along to one of our Park Ranger led guided walks or join the Solihull Striders and Strollers who organise four regular walks in the borough all led by trained, volunteer walk leaders.
Cycling
If you fancy something a bit more vigorous, then why not get on your bike?
Solihull is a great place to cycle; being relatively flat and so close to the open countryside, there are miles of quiet country lanes for you to explore. You can enjoy traffic-free cycling in the parks and along canal towpaths.
Stuck for ideas where to cycle? Visit http://www.cyclesolihull.org.uk/where you will find 12 cycle routes to help you start exploring the area. The suggested routes use relatively quite roads and visit interesting places.
