Year long celebration of reading launches in Solihull

From Press Office on 11 March 2008

Solihull is set to host the launch of the National Year of Reading for the West Midlands next week.

The National Year of Reading (NYR) is a year-long celebration of reading which aims to help build a greater national passion for reading in England – for children, families and adult learners alike.

The year aims to encourage people to read in businesses, homes, and communities around the country, providing new opportunities to read and helping people to access help and support through schools and libraries.

On Thursday 20th March, Solihull Central Library and Arts Complex will be hosting a conference for library and Council staff and partner organisations to launch the campaign in the West Midlands.

There are lots of events planned for Solihull for the year-long campaign including:

  • A song lyric writing competition
  • A public vote on favourite historic books
  • Events to celebrate 30th anniversary of Solihull Central Library and Arts Complex
