Borough Parks win Green Flags

From nscott on 22 July 2008

Solihull Council is celebrating after Shirley, Elmdon, Knowle and Malvern and Brueton Parks have been included in the list of winners of the 2008 Green Flag Award.

As part of the Government’s drive to improve the standards of management and maintenance of parks, the Green Flag Awards recognise top quality parks and green spaces across the country.

Winners were judged against stringent assessment criteria and need to be welcoming and well maintained with support and involvement of the local community.

Shirley, Malvern, Knowle and Brueton and Elmdon Parks are four of 18 principal parks in the Borough of Solihull to achieve the standard in recognition of park management and contribution to the quality of life. The borough has the third highest number of Green Flag parks in the West Midlands.

Cabinet Member for Quality of Life and Neighbourhoods, Cllr Diana Holl-Allen, said: "What an achievement! I am delighted that four of our parks have been credited with this award. It speaks volumes about the hard work that has been put in by members of staff to create clean, safe and green environments that people can enjoy and be proud of."
