The NS Fusion project is going mobile thanks to a new portable soccer pitch which will help to deliver the programme in hard to reach places where facilities for young people are lacking.
The new 15x10 meter pitch designed for 5-a-side football is expected give a new edge to the NS Fusion project which was launched two years ago to engage young people and the community of North Solihull in sport and physical activity
The portable pitch is expected to help tackle problems in areas prone to anti-social behaviour along with building better links with secondary schools.
It's being launched at the Summer Jam event at the Renewal Centre, Lode Lane on Friday 25 July where around 350 young people aged between 11 – 17 are expected to attend. The free day-long event will offer activities in sport and music along with the chance to try out the new mobile pitch.
Sessions using the pitch will start in August at Smith’s Wood Community Centre car par every Tuesday between 7- 8.30pm and Shelly Farm Junior School, Monkspath every Friday evening between 7- 8.30pm for 15 weeks.
It’s aimed that the programme will be rolled out further around the borough and will respond to requests and call outs from police and neighbourhood community teams to areas that would benefit.
Dave Turton, Solihull Council’s Sports Inclusion Development Manager said: "The new mobile pitch is a fantastic opportunity for young people throughout Solihull to channel their energies in a positive manner at times and locations where there is little, if any sporting provision available. By providing this type of programming will also be encouraging young people to have a more active lifestyle."
