Get on your bike and take a spin on new cycle track

From Cabinet Member for Quality of Life and Neighbourhoods, Cllr Mrs Diana Holl-Allen on 23 July 2008

The brand-new cycle track at Tudor Grange Park is now ready to welcome its first visitors.

The track, which will be free of charge to use, is a one kilometre figure of eight circuit, and the brain-child of Solihull Cycling Club’s Olympic Silver medallist, Harry Reynolds who clinched a £400,000 grant from Sports England’s Community Club Development Programme to fund its construction.

The circuit is part of £1m improvements currently being made to the park by Solihull Council.

The improvements mean that by the end of the year, the park will have:

* New paths and better lighting.

* New benches and bins
* Outdoor gym equipment including a rowing machine, support bars and wall bars
* Cycle track
* Improvements to the lake including a giant fountain, bridges, a new pool and a decked area.
* New planting and landscaping.
* A new, well-lit path linking the park to the town centre

* 63, five-metre high semi-mature native Oak, Birch and Alder
* 14, two-metre high native Black Poplar
* 350 other native woodland trees and hundreds of ornamental shrubs.

Work on the remaining improvements has already started and will be finished by December.

Cabinet Member for Quality of Life and Neighbourhoods, Councillor Mrs Diana Holl-Allen said: "This fantastic track, which has been made possible through our partnership with Sport England and Solihull Cycle Club, is a real asset to the borough and it’s great to see it in use. It’s completion also marks a milestone in our work to make £1m of improvements to the park to make it somewhere where people can really enjoy their leisure and recreation time."
