Help on hand for new businesses
From Press Office on 24 July 2008
Anyone who’s thought of starting up their own business but doesn’t know where to begin can get help to launch their dream business through Solihull Council’s new Enterprise for Success scheme.
The scheme, which offers business support, advice and mentoring to new business start-ups trying to get off the ground, has already assisted 22 people, 10 of which it has helped to draw up business plans.
The programme is being delivered through Tribal, a leading UK provider of consulting and professional support services and is seen as a great way to get help making the right decisions before making a commitment and possibly costly mistakes.
One person that has already benefited is Solihull entrepreneur, Chris Leake, founder of Alloy Wheel Doctor. Chris, who spent many years as a tyre fitter for a national company, decided to use his own skills and knowledge to start up the company. The Enterprise for Success scheme is helping him find potential funding and developing a marketing plan.
Chris said: "So far I have just relied on word of mouth to bring in business, but I’m hoping to launch a website and do some advertising to bring in more customers."
New business, BRS Security has also benefited from the programme since it moved to new premises in Solihull to help the business grow.
Chris Whiteman from the company said: "The help that the Council gave us was great and meant we had a really hassle-free move."
Councillor Ian Hillas, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: "Lots of people have great ideas about setting up a business and sometimes all they need is someone to talk to about those ideas.
"That’s what this scheme is about and we welcome people with traditional ideas and creative plans that might just fill a gap in the market."
