Solihull welcomes judges for national bloom competition
From Press Office on 04 August 2008
After showcasing the borough in the regional Heart of England in Bloom competition recently, Solihull Council is now preparing to welcome the judges for the national leg.
The Council enters the regional Heart of England in Bloom competition every year, but this year Solihull is also representing the whole of the West Midlands in the national Britain in Bloom competition too.
On Thursday 7 August, judges from the Royal Horticultural Society will be descending on the borough to see how well the Council looks after the local environment such as taking care of parks, pavements and roads, keeping streets clean and its waste and recycling services.
This year, the theme for the competition is "Local Roots", which aims to encourage people to think about local history and cultural diversity within the community. So as part of this year’s judging route, the judges will be treated to a display of Triumph motorcycles in Malvern Park.
The bikes are being provided by Meriden Triumph Owners Club. Triumph motorbikes were produced in Meriden for a short time, from 1942 after the original factory in Coventry was destroyed during World War II.
The results from both the regional and national judgings will be announced in September.
