Celebration at Local Nature Reserve

From Press Office on 05 August 2008

Local residents celebrated at Lavender Hall Park, Balsall Common recently when it was re-opened as a Local Nature Reserve.

TV presenter Chris Packham cut the ribbon alongside the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor David Bell, on Thursday 24th July. This takes the total of Local Nature Reserves in the borough to 16.

The newly designated Nature Reserve has even been assigned its own group, the Friends Of Lavender Hall Park, who will be encouraging local residents to get involved with parks and green spaces in Solihull.

Many local families took part in the celebration and enjoyed activities, which included bug hunts, face paints and haymaking. Local conservation groups were also at the event giving information about the local wildlife.

The day also celebrated the completion of Katherine’s Wood, an area of native trees planted at Lavender Hall Park in memory of Katherine Courts of Balsall Common who passed away in March 2006.
