Positive about fire prevention

From Press office on 20 August 2008

A group of young people from North Solihull have joined forces with officers from West Midlands Fire Service in taking part in a fire prevention course.

The 12 young people are all from the North Solihull Positive Futures Project, and have been involved in the week- long course, held mainly at Solihull fire station.

The course covered topics such as:

  • the consequences of fire
  • first aid
  • team building
  • using fire service equipment
  • team building

The aim of the course is to encourage young people to contribute to their community and reduce arson, whether it be to buildings, vehicles or generally outdoors. The course also aims to reduce road traffic fatalities and serious injuries and reduce re-offending rates.

The young people will be presented with certificates on Friday 22 August at 1.30pm to celebrate successfully completing the course.
