Great GCSE results for Solihull students

Young people in Solihull are celebrating today (Thursday 21 August) after notching up top GCSE results.
Provisional results show that 72.8 per cent gained A*-C passes – compared to the national average of 65.7 per cent.
The percentage of pupils who gained five or more A*-C grades is 71.9 per cent – a 1.8 per cent increase on last year.
The percentage of pupils who gained five or more A*-C grades including Maths and English is 57.6 per cent – a 1.9 per cent increase on last year.
The percentage of pupils gaining at least one grade A*-G grade is 98.8 per cent – a 1.3 per cent increase on last year.
Councillor Ken Meeson, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Young People said: “Once again the hard work of teachers and pupils has produced results to be thrilled with. I would like to send my wholehearted congratulations to all the young people across the borough who have done so well. They can truly hold their heads up high, and I’m sure I can speak for the borough in saying we are extremely proud of them all.”
