Positive Futures created on new astro pitch

From Cabinet Member for Quality of Life and Neighbourhoods, Cllr Mrs Diana Holl-Allen on 28 August 2008

Footy fanatics are being invited to show of their skills on the new astro pitch at North Solihull Sports Centre.

The Positive Futures Scheme runs a year-round weekly six-a-side football league on the pitch for under 19s and under 16s who have been referred on to the scheme.

And this year’s winners of the latest league were Urban Legends (under 19s) and Chelmsley Youth (under 16s), who were this week congratulated on their success by Cabinet Member for Quality of Life and Neighbourhoods, Councillor Mrs Diana Holl-Allen.

Positive Futures is a national programme which uses sport and leisure activities to engage with young people to help broaden their horizons and encourage them to take part in education, training and employment.

The astro pitch was re-opened earlier this year after a £100,000 refurbishment.

Cabinet Member for Quality of Life and Neighbourhoods, Councillor Mrs Diana Holl-Allen was pleased with the new pitch and congratulated the success of the football teams saying: "Following the £2 million refurbishment of North Solihull Sports Centre, by the Council and its leisure management partner Rivendell Leisure, I’m really pleased to see further investment going to the Council’s sports facilities. These facilities make a significant contribution to the lives of local young people in Solihull as I’ve witnessed with the success of these football teams."

Anyone who would like more information about the programme should call Julie Taylor on 0121 779 1895.
