New car parking for Hobs Moat

Thirty new free car parking spaces are to be created near to Hobs Moat shopping centre in response to feedback from local residents.
Solihull Council received a petition signed by an estimated 2,900 people after the ice rink and nearby pub withdrew their free public car parking.
After receiving the petition, the Council consulted with local residents, traders and councillors on two options to resolve the parking problems.
And at his decision making session today (Thursday 4 September), Cabinet Member for Transport, Highways and Infrastructure, Councillor Ted Richards, approved plans supported by 79% of people who responded to the consultation exercise - to create 30 new free car parking spaces at the junction of Hobs Moat Road and Ulleries Road.
The spaces will be created where the grass verges currently are on the north and south side of the junction.
Waiting time will be limited to two hours with no return within one hour with the exception of Disabled Badge holders who will have a waiting time of three hours and no return within one hour in the four disabled parking bays. The current ‘no waiting’ restrictions will also be extended from the service road to the entrance of the new car park.
The scheme includes landscaping such as planting new trees and planters and improved lighting, and will be completed by the end of November 2008.

We hope that this new scheme will create a convenient and safe area for residents and visitors who wish to use the shopping centre.”
