Step back in time with Heritage Open Days

Discover more about Solihull’s rich history or explore your own ancestry during Heritage Open Days taking place across the borough.

Heritage Open Days are run nationally by the Civic Trust and English Heritage, and in Solihull from 11-14 September, a range of historic places to visit and opportunities to explore will be available:

  • Malvern Hall Open Day, Saturday 13 September 10am-4pm. Malvern Hall is one of Solihull’s oldest and finest buildings, set in 20 acres next to Brueton Park.
  • Free family history course taster session Solihull Central Library, Saturday 13 September 11am-12noon. Find out more about starting a course on researching your family history.
  • Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens, free entry Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September 1.30pm-5.30pm. Step back in time and experience this oasis of tranquillity within these beautiful 10 acre walled gardens, being restored to their 18th Century splendour.
  • Solihull Heritage Gallery – developing your family history, Monday 8 September – Saturday 15 September. Have you found out about your family’s history? Come and find out more about what life was really like for them.
  • St Mary and St Margaret Church – tower tours, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September, 2pm-6pm. Explore the mediaeval roof.
  • Temple Balsall – heritage weekend: Templars, Tudors and Charity Saturday 13 September 12noon-5pm, Sunday 14 September 2pm-5pm. 12th Century Knights Templar preceptory, restored chapel of Knights Hospitalier and school buildings dating back from 1679.
  • Elmdon Park – heritage walk, Sunday 14 September 1.30pm-3.30pm. Take a walking tour of this lovely country-style walk with Solihull Council’s park rangers.
