Vandalised machines at car park cost public dear
From Cabinet Member for Transport, Highways and Infrastructure Councillor Ted Richards on 11 September 2008
Mindless vandals have attacked five ticket machines in a town centre car park, resulting in them being irreparably damaged, and having to be replaced at a cost of £20,000.
The five machines in Monkspath Hall Road car park are now out of order, and the remaining two machines have had to be taken out of service due to the strain of being over-used.
Motorists are now having to pay an attendant, resulting in unavoidable delays.
Meanwhile new machines, costing around £4,000 a time, are on order, and it’s hoped they will be in place in the second week of October. The number of machines will also be increased from seven to 14 to cope with demand and reduce waiting times.
Cllr Ted Richards, Cabinet Member for Transport, Highways and Infrastructure, said:” I heartily condemn this type of mindless vandalism. Not only is it causing problems and delays for the people who use the car park, but it is costing the taxpayer of Solihull over £20,000. We are doing our very best to get new machines in as soon as possible, and we’d like to thank people for their patience at this frustrating time.”
