Setting a strong foundation

Children in Solihull have once again proved themselves top of the tots, following the publication of results of Foundation Stage learning.

The results showed that four and five year olds in Solihull scored higher than the national average in all areas of learning, and in some areas, were ranked third and fourth in the country.

The results show that:
0 92% of children scored at the expected level for dispositions and attitudes (88% nationally)
0 89% met the standard for social development (82% nationally)
0 86% were of the standard for emotional development (77% nationally)
0 86% met the expected standard for language for communication and thinking (79% nationally)
0 For linking sounds and letters, 79% met the standard (71% nationally)
0 82% met the standard for reading and 74% for writing (70% and 61% nationally) Solihull children were ranked third nationally for writing
0 93% met the required standard for numbers and 82% for calculating (88% and 72% nationally) Solihull was ranked fourth nationally for numbers and fifth for calculating

Councillor Ken Meeson, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Young People, said: “This is fantastic news. Even at the youngest stages of learning, Solihull children are far outstripping those living elsewhere. Education in Solihull is at an extremely high standard across the board, and once again I’d like to thank parents, teachers and children for working so hard.”
