Constable Sketch gets bidders interest
From Press Office on 23 September 2008
Solihull Council’s John Constable sketch of Malvern Hall sold at auction today for £17,400.
The sketch was bought by a private owner at Bonham’s auctioneers in Knightbridge, London as the ‘star lot’ at its sale of 18th and 19th Century Watercolours and Drawings.
The sketch of the Hall - now home to St Martin’s School – was commissioned by the then owner, Henry Greswolde during the early 1800s. One of the paintings now hangs in Tate Britain.
