Longdon Road re-opens

From Press Office on 24 September 2008

Longdon Road in Knowle has been re-opened to traffic a week ahead of schedule and £5,000 under budget following extensive work to increase the size of a culvert under the road.

The culvert, which carries Purnells Brook, has been increased by 50 per cent to prevent the risk of flooding to nearby properties during heavy rainfall.

Longdon Road was closed for five weeks over the school summer holiday period to minimise disruption while works were carried out by our contractors Ringway.

Councillor Ted Richards, Cabinet Member for Transport, Highways and Infrastructure, said: “We would like to thank residents in Longdon Road for their co-operation while we increased the size of the culvert. It’s already proved successful and coped well with the heavy rainfall we had earlier this month.”
