Help put artistic touches to Solihull footpath
From Press Office on 30 September 2008
Solihull Council is inviting residents to help re-design a town-centre footpath with the help of local artists Saranjit Birdi and Richard Ellis.
The route is a busy footpath and cycleway that links Homer Road and Tudor Grange Park. The residents’ consultation event takes place on Saturday 4th October. The artists will be in Tudor Grange Park between 10am and 1pm and later at Solihull Arts Complex between 2pm and 5pm.
It is an opportunity for walkers, cyclists and those who use the path and the park to use their artistic vision and imagination to transform it. The aim is to make the link more welcoming and to add features of interest for those who use this route.
The artists will have photographs of similar projects they have worked on to inspire discussion and to show what is possible – for example, decorative gateways, mosaics and special-effect lighting. The pathway is a blank canvas and this is the first stage of public consultation. Residents can discuss ideas with the artists and will be asked to fill in a questionnaire. The views on the questionnaires will give the artists a wish-list of design ideas local people have had. And as an extra treat for those who take part, the artists will offer to do caricatures of them.
