Carers receive thanks for their dedication
From Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Young People Councillor Ken Meeson on 01 October 2008
Foster carers from around the borough who have clocked up more than 150 years of service between them were rewarded for their commitment to children last week.
Around a 100 people, including foster carers and others linked to childcare services in Solihull attended the annual Foster Carers Presentation at Arden Hall on the 24th September.
The Mayor, Councillor David Bell, presented awards alongside staff from the Council.
Foster carers who have stacked up between 5-30 years of service were rewarded on the day, new carers were also presented with certificates to welcome them into fostering.
Maxine and Bernard Bedford were there to receive their award for looking after children for an amazing 20 years, as was Barbara Barker. Shirley Brown was thanked for the 25 years she has spent caring for young ones and carers Moira and Pat Wing and Jan Sheldon, who have each dedicated a staggering 30 years to fostering, were recognised for their contribution.
Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Young People, Councillor Ken Meeson said: “Being a foster carer can make a real difference to the lives of children and young people and provide the care and support they need as they grow up. We are grateful for all the wonderful people in Solihull who are prepared to share their homes and take on this vital role. This event is a way for us to recognise and thank them for their dedication.”
