Could you make a positive change to a child’s life?
From Councillor Ken Meeson, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Young People on 06 November 2008
Solihull Council wants to hear from people who could make a life-changing difference to children in need of care.
As part of National Adoption Week 2008, which runs from 10-16 November, the Council is looking for adoptive families for children of all ages and backgrounds who cannot be bought up by their birth families.
An information evening is being held at the civic suite for those interested in adoption on the 26th November and the Council is encouraging people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds to come along.
Kath and John adopted brothers Michael and Jake eight years ago, they said:
"Adoption has been one of the most challenging but rewarding things we have ever done. We have got so much out of adopting Michael and Jake and feel that we're making a real and positive difference to their lives. Adoption is the best thing that has happened to us and I would thoroughly recommend it".
Adoption is a lifelong commitment, it involves taking on the rights and responsibilities for a child.
The Council offers support to existing adoptive parents and also to those looking to adopt.
Councillor Ken Meeson, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Young People said:
“Most children grow up in happy stable homes but tragically there are some do not have such a good start in life and are unable to remain with their birth family. This may be because of neglect, abuse or simply because parents find they are unable to cope. In such cases it is crucial that we find loving families who will offer these children stability and security on a permanent basis. As an adoptive grandparent I know that this can bring great joy to the family as well as providing the love and support that these children need to carry them through to adult life.
I would urge people from all backgrounds to think about the possibility of becoming adoptive parents and visit the information event to learn more about the adoption process.'
