Shared service success

From Cllr Ken Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Resources on Friday, February 20, 2009

Solihull Council has signed a contract with Lichfield District Council to host Lichfield’s Oracle financial services system.

The shared systems project will see Solihull hosting Lichfield’s system initially for two years, with an option to extend.

Cllr Ken Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Resources, said: “By implementing this project, we will be sharing the costs across both councils, achieving value for money. It gives Lichfield the ability to align with a council that has the latest technology, and enjoy the benefits of a robust support network. We are going to share good practice, and this in turn could lead to further opportunities of developing shared services with other councils in the future.”

Cllr Matthew Ellis, Deputy Leader from Lichfield District Council said: “This is an excellent example of collaborative working between a small district council and a much larger authority. It demonstrates local government working together cross tier and cross boundary to secure a better service and better value for local tax payers. We are delighted.”

Using Oracle Financial and iProc Solution also allows both councils to procure services from a joined up supplier base.

The system will go live in July.
