Achieving equality
From Cabinet Member for Healthier Communities, Councillor Bob Sleigh on 29 October 2009
Solihull Council has been recognised for its work to ensure that local people are treated fairly and have an equal chance to access services and opportunities in the borough.
The Council has recently been assessed as ‘Achieving’ under the new national Equality Framework for Local Government (EFLG).
This means that the Council is working well on issues such as understanding the needs of local residents and involving communities in the services it provides, closing the gap of inequality in the borough and working with other organisations in Solihull to make sure people are treated fairly – regardless of their race, disability, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief.
The EFLG is based on three levels of achievement, ‘developing’, ‘achieving’ and ‘excellent’.
Councillor Bob Sleigh, Cabinet Member for Healthier Communities said: “This is good news for Solihull because it demonstrates our commitment to closing the gap of inequality in the borough and to making sure that everyone is treated fairly. We will continue to listen to our residents as a way of understanding their needs to drive our services, and work with them to promote good community relations.”
