Rounding up the rangers
From Press office on 24 November 2009
Do you know an up-and-coming David Attenborough or budding Katie Humble? If so, Solihull Council wants to hear from them.
30 children are to be given the chance to become Junior Park Rangers, giving them the opportunity to plant new trees, pond dipping, remove graffiti, clean up the parks and go on scavenger hunts and organised trips. The scheme will also see the children working with the Environmental Champions, teaching them about respect for the environment.
The Junior Park Ranger scheme has been running since 2007, having 24 existing volunteers up to this date.
Potential Rangers are required to have a real enthusiasm for the environment and great outdoors. In return they will receive a unique access to environmental and educational activities with the Park Rangers. The sessions which will be held in the Central Solihull and Shirley areas will run twice a month for young people aged between 8 and 15 years.
For a chance to become one of the 30 new Junior Park Rangers, children must design and produce an A4 size picture illustrating their idea of a ‘perfect park for everyone’, with their name, age, address and contact number on the reverse.
Entries are to be handed in to the Solihull Arts Complex by 10th January 2010, with successful candidates being notified by January 31st 2010.
