Counterfeiters caught at Clothes Show Live 2009
From Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Councillor Mrs Holl-Allen on 17 December 2009
Solihull Council seized approximately 700 fake t-shirts at this year’s Clothes Show Live 2009 at the NEC.
Working closely with the show’s organisers, Haymarket Exhibitions Ltd, officers from Solihull Council seized the garments on 4th and 9th December 2009 from two exhibiting stalls.
The fake brands include Ed Hardy, Henley's, Ralf Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, G-Star and Abercrombie & Fitch.
An investigation is now taking place. Anyone found guilty of selling counterfeit goods could receive a maximum prison sentence of ten years.
The Clothes Show Live Solihull Council and Haymarket Exhibitions have been working together for many years to ensure the show is free from illegal products.
Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Councillor Mrs Holl-Allen: “This is a great success story for Solihull Council and Haymarket Exhibitions. Fake items are misleading to consumers who are unlikely to get the product quality they were expecting and are detrimental to legitimate businesses. We continue to work hard to counter the sale of fake goods.”
Gavin Brown Managing Director of Haymarket Exhibitions Ltd said: "Counterfeiters are not tolerated at Clothes Show Live, by working together with Solihull Trading Standards we ensure that our visitors can buy with confidence at the show."
