Planning your wedding?

Preparation is the key to a stress-free wedding. If you stick to the rules below you will be laughing all the way to the aisle:

  1. Shop around for your purchases - this may take time but the savings can be huge.
  2. Book things like the reception, wedding dress and photographer well in advance.
  3. Set out a budget and stick to it. You'll need to be organised with your money as different suppliers will require stage payments and final payments at different times.
  4. Make sure you give Notice of Marriage.

Our Trading Standards webpages have more consumer tips if you are planning a wedding.

The Ceremony

If you wish to marry in England or Wales, you can by either a civil or religious ceremony .

Civil ceremonies can take place in a Register Office or another licensed building. This ceremony is conducted by a registrar and is of a strictly non-religious nature.

A civil ceremony, conducted by our team of experienced registrars, can include personally selected readings, poems and music. Our registrars meet up with the couple before the wedding to ensure the ceremony is conducted just how you want it.

Location

In Solihull we have the Register Office, seating 6 guests and our Ceremony Suite, seating 58 guests.  Both rooms have been recently redecorated to create the perfect environment.  There is also a lovely flower garden for photographs to capture the special day. Visit our Marriage webpages for information on arranging your wedding and pictures of the newly reburbished Register Office.

There are a number of other approved venues in Solihull where you can get married.

Putting up the relatives

You are likely to want to share your special day with friends and family who may need accommodation.   Solihull has wide range of accommodation, from idyllic farmhouses to family run B&Bs to hotels with corporate facilities. We have created an accommodation database with just some of the accommodation available in the borough.

Already married?

At Solihull Register Office you can also have a renewal of vows ceremony.  This could celebrate a special anniversary, such as tenth or twenty-fifth, but is just as appropriate at any stage of marriage.

In addition we offer baby naming/baby welcoming ceremonies and private citizenship ceremonies.
