Keep up to date with the pothole repairs
From Councillor Ted Richards, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways on 08 February 2010
Solihull Council this week started repairing the unprecedented amount of potholes left by the recent severe winter weather and promised to keep residents up to date with their progress.
Over the last few weeks, road maintenance crews have inspected the borough’s main road network – which generally consists of roads on gritting routes – resulting in a schedule of repairs to be carried out that came into effect on 1 February.
This schedule will effectively detail the work on potholes to be carried out over the next eight works.
To carry out these repairs, Solihull Council is investing a further £165,000 in road maintenance to repair first the potholes on our main roads and second, if financial resources allow, to prioritise work for the remaining road network. Any work not picked up as part of this initiative will be programmed for early in the new financial year, starting the 1st April 2010.
To ensure residents of Solihull are kept up to date with the pothole repairs, a weekly update of repair works will be issued here and via both Solihull Connect and the Solihull Council twitter feed.
During this period of pothole repairs, the Council’s routine area response maintenance teams will continue to carry out other normal repairs to footpaths and to roads.
Councillor Ted Richards, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: “We are sure the travelling public will appreciate that during this period it will take a little time to repair all of the priority potholes; this may mean that some potholes are not treated as quickly as we would like and we would therefore ask drivers to take care on our roads at this time.
“The initial work we have undertaken to date would suggest the roads in Solihull are not as bad as some other areas regionally and we believe this is as a result of the proactive treatment of sealing surfaces last year, which has reduced cracking and the subsequent potholes.”
