Volunteers come together to clear up Elmdon Coppice

A team of volunteers and residents worked together to make a real difference to an Elmdon beauty spot last weekend.
On Sunday (7 Feb) local residents joined the Solihull Conservation Volunteers and representatives from the Council in cutting back an area of invasive Rhododendron in Elmdon Coppice.
The Rhododendron had been causing problems in the woodland because it smothers natural vegetation.
It also provided cover for fly tipping and other anti-social behaviour, so the team of helpers cut back an area of the troublesome plant and cleared litter from the woodland.
Rangers were on hand to take the sacks of rubbish away and they also built bird boxes with some of the younger volunteers, which have been put up in the Coppice.
David Collins, a member of Solihull Conservation Volunteers said: "It was a really enjoyable day and we achieved a great deal with the help of local residents. It's good to know that people appreciate the work we are doing to improve valuable natural areas in the Borough. The help and support of local residents was much appreciated by the group."
