Turning an idea into reality

From Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, Councillor Ian Courts on 16 February 2010

Solihull Council is holding a free event open to anyone who wants to turn a business idea into reality.

The half-day session entitled ‘An Introduction to Self-Employment’ will be held at Fordbridge Centre, Chelmsley Wood on Wednesday 23 February, 10am-12pm.  Attendees will be able to find out about starting up a business, including advice on setting up a bank account and registering for tax as well as getting the chance to meet some local entrepreneurs.

The event is being run as part of the Council’s Enterprise for Success scheme which offers free business advice and mentoring to new business start-ups.

Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, Councillor Ian Courts said: “It can be very daunting starting a new business, especially in the current economic climate, but we have a wide range of help and advice available for those at any stage of the start-up process.

“We are holding the event in North Solihull as we are particularly keen to encourage business start-ups in this area, creating new jobs as a result.”

Carla Martinho from Tribal who is heading the project for Enterprise for Success added: “Lots of people have great ideas for a business. We are offering free assistance and mentoring to people to help make these ideas a success. This event is a great way for individuals to get expert and impartial advice – it may just be a chat about a business proposal, some guidance on finance and sales or help to putting together a comprehensive business plan.”
