Solihull Celebrates New Year Honours Recipients

Solihull residents Peter Donohoe and John Jameson were congratulated by Solihull Council for their 2010 New Year Honours recognitions on Tuesday evening, 23 February at the Civic Suite.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Norman Davies and Council Officers came together to recognise Peter Donohoe’s CBE for services to classical music and John Jameson’s MBE for his commitment and involvement in cricket.
Peter Donohoe is regarded internationally as the best British pianist of his generation. He first came to public attention when he won the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982 and he now performs regularly with many of the major orchestras around the world.
Former Warwickshire and England cricketer, John Jameson, represented the county from 1960 until 1976 as well as playing in four Tests for the country. He was a first class umpire between 1984 and 1987 and is also respected as a pitch inspector and expert on the laws of cricket.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Norman Davies said: “I would like to congratulate Peter and John on their much deserved awards. We are proud to have such distinguished residents in our borough and this evening has given us an opportunity to honour their achievements. These two talented individuals have both excelled in their careers, gaining national and international recognition.
“Peter and John are true assets to the borough. I am sure they have inspired many in Solihull and across the West Midlands to see or take part in music and sport.”
