Green light for garden waste collections

From Cabinet Member for Community Services, Councillor Mrs Kate Wild on 02 March 2010

Garden waste collections are due to begin again in Solihull from 5 April.

Solihull Council will collect residents’ green wheelie bins every fortnight, on the same day as their normal rubbish collection.

Depending on the collection round, residents’ collections will start on either week commencing 5 April or 12 April. Residents will be receiving a collection calendar through their letterboxes to let them know which week their collections will start, and the rest of their collection dates up until 10 December.

The Council extended the collection service into December last year following feedback from residents who wanted extra collections. Last year, residents collected over 15,000 tonnes of garden waste which is recycled and turned into compost.

Cabinet Member for Community Services, Councillor Mrs Kate Wild said: “Well done to residents who recycled a terrific amount of their garden waste last year. I hope we can rely on their support again this year in our efforts to recycle as much of our waste as possible and make the borough cleaner and greener for everyone.”
