Make the school run safer in Lyndon

From Cllr Ted RIchards, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways on 09 March 2010

Solihull Council is asking local people for their views on proposals to provide improvements to local roads in the Lyndon Area as a second phase of the Lyndon Area Safer Routes to School Scheme.

Following the completion of Phase 1 of the scheme in Spring 2008, draft proposals have been prepared for additional features to reduce traffic speeds, and provide extra crossing facilities for pedestrians and routes for cyclists in the vicinity of local schools. The proposals include traffic calming features on two of the busiest roads in the Lyndon Area - Lyndon Road and Ulleries Road.

The Council is also proposing to provide 3 new humped zebra crossings in the area to provide people with safe places to cross.

Views of local residents, parents and anyone else who uses the road are now needed to help finalise the proposals.

A public exhibition is being held at The Meadow Suite, Solihull Ice Rink, Hobs Moat Road on Tuesday 16th March from 2pm – 8pm, where people can see the plans in more detail and Council officers will be on hand to answer any questions.

Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, Councillor Ted Richards said: “Keeping pedestrians and cyclists safe on the journey to and from school is very important, in particular on roads where the numbers of vehicles and traffic speeds can be high. We want to encourage more children and parents to walk or cycle to school, by providing improvements and new facilities that reduce concerns about safety on the school journey. I hope people will come along to our exhibition to see the proposals in more detail and give us their views.”
