Lights, camera, action - Kinghurst residents get on film
From Press office on 10 March 2010
It might not be the Oscars, but Kingshurst Library was all about the screen this Wednesday as the short film ‘Kingshurst Memories’ was premiered.
The film features a number of Kingshurst residents discussing their impressions and memories of the area. Co-ordinated by Kingshurst Library, funded by Learning Revolution Festival and produced by local film maker Rachel Gillies, the film was made to show how Kingshurst has changed over the years, but the sense of community remains strong.
The first part of the film explores why a group of Kingshurst residents moved to Kingshurst in the 50s as young adults and children and what they first thought of the area. The second part of the film includes local children discussing what they expect the area to be like in 50 years.
The special showing on Wednesday 10 March was attended by the Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Norman Davies and the residents featured in the film.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Norman Davies said: “It is really interesting to listen to why people moved to the area and their initial impressions, some good and some bad. Beyond the entertainment value of this project, it is very important that our history records include personal accounts and experiences so future generations can learn what life was like for residents.”
The film has now been uploaded on the Solihull Council’s Council's heritage webpage at www.solihull.gov.uk/heritage
