Solihull in Bloom is back

From Press Office on 10 March 2010

It is that time of year again.  Time to get out the spade and trowel.  Time to get weeding and seeding.  Time to make the borough bloom.

The fun begins with the town centre launch of Solihull in Bloom next Saturday.  A full day of activities for all the family to enjoy will be taking place in Mell Square on 20 March, 10.30am – 3.30pm.

Visitors will be able to make a bird box, pick up a free packet of seeds or add some pieces to the 6ft pyramid mosaic that is being made to celebrate Solihull in Bloom.  There will also be badge making, face painting, a farm equipment display and sunflower seed planting.

Alongside all the exciting activities people will be able to find out how they can enter their gardens, hanging baskets or business fronts in the annual Solihull Garden Competition, sponsored by the Solihull News,  Notcutts Garden Centre and Zodiac Creative Design Consultants Ltd.

The launch marks the start of the borough’s preparation for the annual Heart of England in Bloom competition.  After last year’s success, Solihull has made it through to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom 2010 final and will be battling it out to be awarded the UK’s ‘Best City’.

As part of the competition, judges will be touring Solihull later this year to examine the standards of horticulture and cleanliness, as well as community involvement in the borough.

Over the coming months there will be plenty of projects anyone can get involved in.  For more information about Solihull in Bloom and how you can take part visit www.solihull.gov.uk/solihullinbloom on call 0121 704 6546.
