Bills Lane Traffic Calming Scheme
From Cllr Ted Richards, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways on 16 March 2010
Solihull Council is asking for the views of local people on a traffic calming scheme in Shirley. Solihull Council is asking for the views of local people on a traffic calming scheme in Shirley.
Following a review of road safety on Bills Lane, Shirley and concerns raised by parents and pupils at local schools in the area, Solihull Council is looking to introduce a series of traffic calming features in Bills Lane. These include raised table tops at junctions and road humps to reduce traffic speeds.
The Council is seeking the views of local residents and other people who use the road to help them to finalise the proposals.
A public exhibition is to be held at St James Church Hall (next to Shirley Library) on Tuesday 23rd March from 3pm to 8pm. Council Officers will be available to answer any questions local residents may have on the proposals.
Cllr Ted Richards, Cabinet member for Transport and Highways said: “High traffic speeds on residential roads can cause safety concerns for local residents and pedestrians, in particular on busier roads used by school children on the school journey. We want to encourage more children and parents to walk or cycle to school, by providing improvements that reduce concerns about road safety. I hope people will come along to our exhibition to see the proposals in more detail and give us their views.”
