Details regarding free swimming for under 16s and over 60s in Solihull
From Councillor Graham Craig, Cabinet Member for Community Services on 23 June 2010
Following last week’s announcement by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, residents are being informed that free swimming in Solihull will end on 31 July 2010.
The free swimming for under 16s and the over 60s was part of £73 million worth of savings announced by Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport.
However, Silhillians can still enjoy swimming in the borough at both Tudor Grange and North Solihull Leisure Centres, with a variety of affordable packages available.
At both Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and North Solihull Sports Centre, swimming packages start from £20.80 a month, while at Tudor Grange swimmers can also enjoy five swims for £5 between 2.30-5pm, Tuesday to Friday.
Councillor Graham Craig, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “It is really disappointing that the free swimming provision has been cut, but I hope it doesn’t put people off going for a swim in Solihull. We have some fantastic facilities at both our leisure centres and lots of different packages available, why not grab this opportunity to try it out for free before the end of July and see what we have to offer?”
More information about swimming options in Solihull is available from either Tudor Grange on 0121 7056371 or North Solihull Sport Centre on 0121 7703822.
