Explore nature in Solihull’s parks
From Press office on 04 August 2010
Over August Solihull Council is holding a number of free park events especially for young nature lovers.
On Tuesday 10 August, 2pm-4pm there will be orienteering in Babbs Mill Local Nature Reserve. Helped by the Council’s Park Rangers, children will learn how to follow a map and navigate themselves along the lake, through the grasslands and into the wood in the park.
For those with artistic flair there is a Creating Creatures event on Thursday 12 August, 10am-12pm, in Palmers Rough Local Nature Reserve. Using leaves, twigs, pinecones and other natural materials, children can make a piece of animal artwork. Spaces are limited so anyone interested should call 0121 704 8000 to book a spot.
Anyone who fancies a big adventure should come down to one of the two mini-beast safaris at Marston Green Park on Thursday 19 August, 11am-1pm, and at Dickens Heath Country Park on Tuesday 24 August, 11am-12.30pm. The budding explorers will seek out all the animal delights in the parks, including the bugs living under logs and beasts creeping in the grass. Children will also get the chance to have a go catching a butterfly or dragon fly using an insect net.
Then on Monday 23 August, 10.30am-12.30pm at Dorridge Park families are invited to find out more about all the tremendous trees in the parks. Attendees will learn from the Park Rangers about how to identify different trees by their leaves and bark and will also get to take home their own tree identification chart.
