Get online and get active!
From Councillor Graham Craig, Cabinet Member for Community Services on 17 August 2010
A new web site making it easier to find different ways of getting active in Solihull has launched.
The Solihull Active web portal is the ultimate web resource for anyone looking to try something physical in the borough, including how to get involved in sport and physical activity in Solihull, links to local sites, how to volunteer, support for local clubs and how to access funding.
It also includes a database of local sports clubs, which can be searched by the type of sport, through a calendar of upcoming events or just by finding the nearest club to where someone lives.
The new site is part of a drive from Solihull Active to encourage more people - regardless of age of ability – to exercise for at least 30 minutes on at least five days a week.
Councillor Graham Craig, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “This new web site is a fantastic resource for anyone looking to get more active in Solihull. There is a huge range of sports and physical activities to try in the borough, from boules, tai chi and allotments right through to rugby, tennis or ice hockey – hopefully something for everyone.
“Five sessions of 30 minutes exercise may sound like a lot, but you could break that down into three lots of 10-minute session. It’s more about doing more than you do already and you’re really spoilt for choice for ways to do it in Solihull. Why not log on and see what’s on offer? You might just find your perfect sport.”
