Vandalised mosaic flower blights Bloom efforts
From Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Tim Hodgson on 17 August 2010
Solihull Council is appealing for residents to help police track down those responsible for vandalising one of the new mosaic flowers in Mell Square.
Eight mosaic flowers were added to one of the flowerbeds in the square as part of this year’s Solihull in Bloom campaign.
Over the weekend the head of one of the flowers was pulled off, leaving the petals and stem in place. Council contractors Enterprise have found the head, which will be repaired and reattached to the flower soon.
Police have been informed of the vandalism and are looking at CCTV to gather more information.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Tim Hodgson said: “I completely condemn this behaviour which has really tainted the end to this year’s Solihull in Bloom campaign.
“These flowers have only been in place a few weeks, adding interest and colour to the area. I really hope that this is just one mindless act and the flowers will in future be left untouched for many visitors and residents to enjoy.”
Anyone who has any information should contact Solihull Police on 0345 113 5000.
