REDO Pakistan Exhibition

From Press office on 18 August 2010

A one day exhibition featuring artists’ ideas for a better Pakistan comes to Solihull Arts Complex’s Gallery on Thursday 2 September, 1pm – 7pm.

The REDO Pakistan project invites artists and writers from around the world to showcase their ideas for a more prosperous Pakistan. Installed as a mock symposium and newspaper stall, the project has travelled Pakistan, London and New York.  At each place new art work, performances, films and critical discussions are added to reflect new ideas and the exhibition’s journey.

For just one day this exciting exhibition comes to Solihull.  Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see the latest video art from Pakistan.

Each visitor will also be given the REDO Pakistan 2nd Edition newspaper entitled Declaration of War Against War, including graphic design, poetry and critical discussions from a number of contemporary artists.  Each of these artists has explored imaginative solutions to the troubled nation of Pakistan.

The exhibition culminates in an exciting talk from 6.15pm – 7pm by curators of the project Fatima Hussain and Hamja Ahsan about the project and the general state of contemporary art in Pakistan.

Both the exhibition and talk are free to attend.

In reaction to the recent floods in Pakistan, there will be a collection at the exhibition for the Red Cross.  Anyone can donate money to the Pakistan Floods Appeal by visiting www.redcross.org.uk.

The REDO exhibition is organised by Other Asias, for more information visit http://otherasias.webnode.com
