Help for Solihull Businesses to go worldwide

From Councillor John Reeve, Cabinet Member for Community & Economic Regeneration on 27 August 2010

A free event to help Solihull businesses looking for growth in overseas markets will be held on 23 September at Blythe Valley Innovation Centre, Blythe Valley Park.

Solihull Council has joined forces with Solihull Chamber of Commerce and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) to stage this event which aims to help businesses explore the opportunities of international trade.

The event will include advice and support for both new and existing exporters, information on overseas market opportunities and trading partners, and also a case study from local company StadiArena in Meriden, who have successfully entered the export market.

StadiArena have developed a system of converting outdoor stadiums into indoor arenas in a matter of minutes, by enclosing one end of the venue.  They were last year voted ‘Exporter of the Year’ at the West Midlands International Trade Awards, after their efforts to win overseas business. Among countries targeted by the company are those in South East Asia, including India, with whom they have signed an exclusive territory licence.

Councillor John Reeve, Cabinet Member for Community & Economic Regeneration said: “This event is aimed at businesses from all sectors and industries, whether they are looking to take their first steps into exporting, or develop into new markets.

“StadiArena is a great example of the strong business base in Solihull that has huge opportunities for becoming more active in overseas markets and for increasing their bottom line.

Jane Jackson, Director of Solihull Chamber said: “Nearly all businesses are global these days, with many of them receiving enquiries from abroad via the internet.

This event is designed to capitalise on that, by showing local businesses how they can make the most of export markets and the support available.”
