Key stage 1 success in Solihull

From Press office on 27 August 2010

Solihull’s 7 years olds have produced an excellent set of Key Stage 1 results, once again exceeding the national average.

Provisional results released by the Government on Tuesday 26 August show 91% of pupils in the borough achieved at least a level two - the Government's minimum standard - for reading.  The national average was 85%.

In writing, 88% of pupils achieved level two or above, matching last year's achievement and above the national average of 81%.

Pupils continued the good results in maths, achieving 93% - 4% above the national average.

The average point score, calculated from the results of all students in the borough at Key Stage 1, ranked Solihull second nationally in reading, writing and maths.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Ian Hedley said: “These are an amazing set of results which children, parents and teachers should be very proud of.  Through the hard work of the children and great teaching, pupils are gaining a strong foundation of learning skills which they will continue to develop throughout their time in education.”
