Pay and display in Mell Square car park

From Cllr Ted Richards, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways on 23 November 2011

Mell Square car park is to become a pay and display car park from 1 February 2012.

Mell Square car park is to become a pay and display car park from 1 February 2012.

In recent months, the pay on foot machines have been vandalised, and so it has been decided that, rather than replace them, to move to a pay and display system.

People will be able to pay by cash, credit or debit cards, and will also be able to top up their parking stay via their mobile phones. The cost of parking will remain the same.

The car park will be monitored by Civil Parking Enforcement Officers, who will provide a visible and reassuring presence to people using the car park, and enforce parking charges.

The move will bring the number of Council-run pay and display car parks to four – the other three are Monkspath Hall Road, Dominion Court, and Church Hill car parks.

Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, Councillor Ted Richards, said: “Because our machines in Mell Square car park have been vandalised recently, it seems a sensible time to make the change to pay and display, rather than simply replace the pay on foot machines, with a risk that it will happen again.

The pay and display system will give people a choice of ways to pay, including topping up their stay by mobile phone, which is very convenient and hopefully help people avoid getting a ticket for overstaying."

Notices will be placed in the car park informing people of the changes.
